The hockey rivalries in the Upper Peninsula are nothing short of legendary but occasionally there are good reasons to set them aside for a great game. The hockey rivalries in the Upper Peninsula are nothing short of legendary but occasionally there are good reasons to set them aside for a great game.
Austin Riipi (Calumet Wolverines), Joey Enright (Marquette Mutineers) and Tony Kyto (Portage Lake Pioneers) did just that as they donned their high school jerseys in the Marquette Senior High School annual alumni game. Enright and Riipi played on the Red team while Kyto was the goalie for the Black team.
All three found the score sheet in one way or another. Enright scored two goals, including a late equalizer in the third period. Riipi had an assist and the Red team’s only penalty. Kyto stopped 25 of 33 shots.
The Black team won 10-8. Riipi and Kyto will faceoff again this weekend as the Wolverines and Pioneers will play on New Years Eve.
