Weekend Recap: Falcons Win Twice at Home

The Eagle River Falcons and Mosinee Papermakers picked up victories over the weekend in Great Lakes Hockey League action.Friday, February 9
Mosinee Papermakers 10, De Pere Deacons 6
Trailing 5-1 at home late in the second period, the Papermakers offense erupted for nine goals in the final 21 minutes of the game to come up with the 10-6 victory. Tim Nicksic (2), Will Mullooy, Aiden Fahey, Luke Karakas all scored in the first two period pushing the Deacons out front. The Papermakers started chipping away late in the second period with goals 32 seconds apart by Trey Zagrzebski and Kyle Heck. They picked it right back up to start the third, scoring 21 seconds in to make it a one score game. Jason Mcaloon and Nicholas D'Avolio led the way with four points each for the Papermakers in the comeback.

Eagle River Falcons 11, Fox Cities Ice Dogs 2
The Falcons scored early and often Friday night, scoring five in the first, and three each in the second and third to run away with the 11-2 win over the Ice Dogs. Alex Racino picked up the hat trick plus one Friday, finishing the night with five points. Mike Madosh (16 saves) and Luke Lamb (4 saves) split time in net for the Falcons who only faced 22 shots on goal.

Eagle River Falcons 5, Portage Lake Pioneers 4 (OT)
Todd Koritzinsky scored with 3:11 left in overtime to give the Falcons a 5-4 win over the top team in the GLHL Saturday. Trailing 4-2 early in the third period, the Pioneers got back-to-back goals from Brett Hauswirth to tie the game with 11:49 remaining in the third. The teams combined for 74 shots on goal and only eight penalty minutes in the game.
