The Monroe Blues won their third straight game and Mosinee swept a weekend against last year’s title teams in a busy Great Lakes Hockey League weekend of action.

Mosinee 8, Fond du Lac 3
The Mosinee Papermakers (11-3-0) scored the final eight goals to defeat the visiting Fond du Lac Bears (5-6-0) Friday night. The Papermakers got two goals each from Eric Vehlow and Alex Racino, while Greg Hanson had a four-point night. The Bears outshot the home squad 57-44 in the losing effort.

Calumet 12, De Pere 4
The Calumet Wolverines (3-10-0) won their third straight home contest Saturday night, this time in convincing fashion as seven players had four or more points during the team’s 12-4 thumping over De Pere (2-12-0). Alex VanWagner paced the Wolverines with a goal and five assists.

Monroe 5, Eagle River 2
The suddenly surging Monroe Blues (4-10-0) scored three in the third period to clinch their third straight win Saturday night at home against Eagle River (7-5-2). Gottlieb Brandi III had three points and Scotty Perkins had a pair of goals, while Christian Blick made 36 saves on 38 shots.

Fond du Lac 7, Fox Cities 4
Fond du Lac bounced back from Friday’s loss with a nice win over Fox Cities (6-5-2) Saturday night. The Bears were down 3-1 before taking a 4-3 lead heading into the third. The Bears scored three in the third to thwart the Ice Dogs comeback. Robbie Coleman and Joe Blagoue had two goals and an assist each for the Bears.

Mosinee 5, West Bend 4
Mosinee nearly let a 5-2 lead evaporate Saturday night against the defending regular-season champion Bombers (10-3-0), but goaltender Anthony Lashua made the needed saves down the wire, 52 in total, to earn the win. Theran Bauer and Zach Comfort had three-point nights for the Papermakers.

Portage Lake 5, De Pere 1
The Portage Lake Pioneers (12-2-0) kept pace as the top team in the Great Lakes Hockey League with a convincing 5-1 win over De Pere Sunday at Dee Stadium. The Pioneers outshot the Deacons 67-27 in the contest.
