THE GLHL CREATED THE “TIM JACOBSEN” AWARD TO HONOR COMMITMENT AND STEWARDSHIP BY NON-LEAGUE MEMBERS

2018-11-26

Dan “Tim” Jacobsen has served as the Eagle River Falcons Hockey Team’s Manager for 18 seasons. Tim has been a huge part of the Falcons’ success and a shining beacon of an unsung member behind the scenes of the Great Lakes Hockey League.

Dan “Tim” Jacobsen has served as the Eagle River Falcons Hockey Team’s Manager for 18 seasons. Tim has been a huge part of the Falcons’ success and a shining beacon of an unsung member behind the scenes of the Great Lakes Hockey League. Tim’s efforts included numerous game day tasks, regular managerial duties during the game, and finding all the pucks shot over the glass at practices. As an ambassador to the GLHL Tim was well respected by every team in the league and true example of the attitude needed to be an asset of the league.

Tim was a stoic manager and let his actions do all the talking. Many players have come and gone in Tim’s 18 years, and new players often asked why Tim didn’t get excited about their presence, and they are quickly reminded how many players he has seen not make it, or fail to return for various reasons. “You’ll know if he likes you if he remembers your name in your 2nd or 3rd year” said one former Falcon. One Season around 2005 the Falcons had 50+ players play over the course of the season and Tim had to be the “Turk” for each one to collect their Jersey and socks as they left.

Tim will be most remembered for his token Cowboy hat, endless supply of candy in the locker room, and superstitious tactics in between periods. He would often change his whole outfit in between periods if the Falcons played bad, or had some bad luck, and if needed he would go barefoot around the locker room to set the tone for the new period. If absolutely needed he would change his Cowboy hat, which has only been witnessed a few times in 18 years. Tim and his Wife Gina were fans first and enjoyed watching every game and hanging with “her boys” after the game. They even arrived at a game in Green Bay that the Falcons Team couldn't make it due to bad weather. As Tim and Gina move on to the next stage in their lives we wish them the best and thank them for all they have done for the Falcons Organization and the Great Lakes Hockey League.

The “Tim Jacobsen” Award will be issued Biennially by the GLHL to recognize the efforts of non-player or league officials for their efforts and commitment to the GLHL. The award will be presented to the recipient at the end of season GLHL Tournament. The Falcons Organization has agreed to furnish the "Tim Jacobsen" award on behalf of the GLHL.

To nominate someone for the "Tim Jacobsen" Award, please send your nominees name and a short explanation detailing why they deserve the award to Bob Macdonald jr. at bob.mac33@gmail.com.
