GLHL Weekend Recap: Ice Dogs Pick Up Two Victories

The Ice Dogs picked up two victories in a weekend that saw five games across the league.

Friday, February 16
Fox Cities Ice Dogs 7, Portage Lake Pioneers 5
A back and forth game went the way of the Ice Dogs Friday night as they knocked off the top ranked Pioneers 7-5. Connor Zilsch, Jeremy Ballard, and Andrew Jones each scored within a five-minute span shortly after the Pioneers scored the first goal of the game a little over a minute in, to take a lead they would not relinquish. Ballard would finish with two goals and two assists, and Zilsch with a hat trick in the win.

De Pere Deacons 7, Calumet Wolverines 4
Down 3-0 in the second period, the Wolverines scored four straight to take a one-goal lead into the second intermission, but the Deacons tied things up 2:24 into the third and cemented things away with three more for the win. Luke Karakas had a five-assist night, and captain Brian Knowalchuk had four assists of his own in the Deacons win. Jake Jankowski made 45 saves in net for the win.

Saturday, February 17
Portage Lake Pioneers 4, De Pere Deacons 2
Matt Mantta scored the game winning goal 3:20 into the third period to lead the Pioneers to a 4-2 win over De Pere. Ross Rouleau cemenmted things away with 5:53 remaining with the night's final tally, his second of the game. The goaltending was great for both teams Saturday, with the Pioneers netminder Aaron Petrulis stopping 34 of 36 shots, and Dylan Baker of De Pere stopping 44 of 48.

Fox Cities Ice Dogs 8, Calumet Wolverines 0
Drew Chaney stopped all 31 shots he faced Saturday in an 8-0 shutout for Fox Cities. Led by Alec Elkin's five-point night, the Ice Dogs score two in the first, and three each in the second and third  for their second victory of the weekend. Elkin finished with a hat-trick and two helpers.

Eagle River Falcons 15, Marquette Mutineers 4
The Falcons had their way offensively Saturday night, pouring in 15 goals to grab the road victory. The Falcons scored two the first, seven in the second, and six more in the third in the onslaught victory.
