Thanks to a pair of victories, the Mosinee Papermakers jumped into first place in the GLHL standings.

Friday, January 3
Portage Lake Pioneers 6, M&M Shamrocks 1

The Portage Lake Pioneers scored a 6-1 victory over the M&M Shamrocks Friday night at the Marinette Community REC Center. The Pioneers set the tone early, with Wyatt Geshel scoring the opener at 15:21 of the first period, followed by a power-play goal from Zach Hill less than a minute later. Portage Lake continued their offensive push in the second, adding a goal from Spencer Donnelly before the Shamrocks briefly responded with a tally by Dallas McLaughlin. The Pioneers pulled away in the third period with three unanswered goals, including two more from Geshel to complete his hat trick and another by Hill, who finished with three points. Goaltender Camden Burggrabe was solid in net, stopping 27 of 28 shots, while the Pioneers peppered Shamrocks goaltender Adam Lindeman with 59 shots. The win showcased Portage Lake’s offensive firepower and disciplined play, as they capitalized on their chances and limited the Shamrocks’ opportunities throughout the game.

Mosinee Papermakers 12, Sun Prairie Killer Bees 2
The Papermakers dominated from start to finish, cruising to a 12-2 victory over Sun Prairie. Mosinee set the tone early, outshooting Sun Prairie 31-4 in the first period and jumping out to a 4-0 lead, highlighted by two goals from Tom Lentz. The Papermakers exploded for seven goals in the second period, with Jason McAloon recording a hat trick and finishing with four goals and two assists on the night. Russell Johnson and Dustin Jonasson added six points each for Mosinee, which tallied an astounding 73 shots on goal. The Killer Bees found the net twice, with Wyatt Kniper and Logan John each contributing a goal and an assist, but they were unable to keep pace with Mosinee's relentless offense. Goaltender Austin Jensen turned away 15 of 17 shots for the Papermakers, while Davis Nunnally made 61 saves in a valiant effort for the Killer Bees.

De Pere Deacons 5, Calumet Wolverines 4
De Pere edged out Calumet 5-4 in a thrilling back-and-forth game Friday night at De Pere Ice Arena. De Pere struck first with Brett Pansier scoring late in the first period, and the teams traded blows in an explosive second frame, with De Pere's Will Mullooly scoring twice on the power play while Calumet responded with goals from Austin Rilei, Eric Bausano, and Cam Anderson. Mullooly completed his hat trick in the third period to secure the win, despite another tally from Anderson for Calumet. Goaltenders Jake Jankowski and Bruce Parisot faced a barrage of shots, with Jankowski stopping 35 of 39 and Parisot making 46 saves on 51 shots.

Saturday, January 4
Calumet Wolverines 5, M&M Shamrocks 4 (SO)

Extra time wasn't enough as the Wolverines and Shamrocks went to a shootout Saturday, and it was the Wolverines who came away with the extra standings point, 5-4. Calumet struck first with goals from Sherman Mowery and Logan Rastello in the opening frame, while Brandon Stowe responded for the Shamrocks. The home team rallied in the second period with tallies from Tim L’Huillier and Dallas McLaughlin to take a 3-2 lead. After McLaughlin extended the Shamrocks' lead early in the third, Calumet answered back with another goal each from Mowery and Rastello to force overtime. Despite a flurry of chances in the extra session, neither team could break the deadlock, and the Wolverines prevailed in the shootout. Calumet goaltender Bruce Parisot turned away 39 shots, while the Shamrocks' Eli Hicks stopped 59 of 63 in a valiant effort.

Fox Cities Ice Dogs 7, Sun Prairie Killer Bees 4
The Ice Dogs won in their home debut Saturday, outlasting the Killer Bees 7-3. After a close two periods, the Ice Dogs erupted with five third-period goals, led by Jeremy Ballard's 4-point performance (1G, 3A) and Clint Zumer's two goals. Despite stellar goaltending from Sun Prairie’s Davis Nunnally, who faced 56 shots, the Ice Dogs’ offensive firepower proved overwhelming. Mike Chavez scored twice for the Killer Bees, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Ice Dogs' relentless attack. The Killer Bees are still searching for their first win as members of the Great Lakes Hockey League.

Mosinee Papermakers 7, Fond du Lac Bears 5
Mosinee broke a 5-5 tie late in the third period and added an empty netter to seal away their 7-5 victory over Fond du Lac on Saturday. Fond du Lac’s Micah Buchholz scored twice, including the opening goal and another late in the period, while Tom Glomski added one of his own. Mosinee responded with goals from Max Culp, Trey Zagrzebski, and Greg Hanson to keep the game level after 20 minutes. The second period continued the high-paced action, as the Bears briefly grabbed the lead with goals from Connor McLaughlin and Dayne Deanovich, however, Mosinee countered with goals from Tyler Cleveland and another by Culp, keeping the game tied at five heading into the final frame. The Papermakers took control late in the third, breaking the tie with Jason McAloon’s go-ahead goal and sealing the win with Nicholas D’Avolio’s empty-netter. Both teams fired 34 shots on net.
